Wallace Chung debuts as director with Sandglass
Actor Wallace CHUNG 鍾漢良 is set to make his directorial debut with coming-of-age drama Sandglass 沙漏, the adaptation of a novel by RAO Xueman 饒雪漫.
Published in 2011, the three-part novel is about the lives of three troubled young girls. Rao will also write the screenplay for the film adaptation, with author-turned-director HAN Han 韓寒 on board as producer. Chung has a supporting role in Han's directorial debut The Continent 後會無期.
This is Rao's second adaptation of her own novel. Last year, The Left Ear 左耳 – the directorial debut of actor Alec SU 蘇有朋 – earned RMB485 million (US$75.9 million) at the box office and earned Su a Best New Director nomination at this year's Golden Horse Awards 金馬獎.
Beijing Enlight Pictures Co Ltd 北京光線影業有限公司, which distributed The Left Ear, will also release Sandglass some time next year. The cast of the film and the production start date has not been announced.
