PNT không phải là phim dễ xem, dễ hiểu, bởi nó là loại phim mang phong cách, cá tính, cảm xúc cá nhân đạo diễn. Không cảm nhận được, không đồng điệu được thì giữa phim và người xem không thể có tiếng nói chung và như thế không thể nói là phim không hay, phim dở...

PNT không nhất thiết phải tuân thủ theo những kết cấu kinh điển như có thứ tự, lớp lang, có mở có kết, có cao trào gút thắt..., mà có thể tùy theo cảm xúc của đạo diễn muốn sáng tạo, “kể” câu chuyện của mình trong tác phẩm điện ảnh như thế nào, theo trình tự ra sao, thậm chí ngay trong câu chuyện để “kể” cũng không có cốt truyện, kết cấu rõ ràng, logic... Bộ phim điện ảnh thứ ba của Đạo diễn KU HYE SUN  - "Daughter" (do Ku Hye Sun Film & Yes Production hợp tác sản xuất) nhận được lời mời tham dự Liên hoan phim quốc tế Busan lần thứ 19 (BIFF 2014).

BIFF - là Liên hoan phim lớn nhất Hàn Quốc được tổ chức từ ngày 02 đến ngày 11 tháng 10 tại Haeundae, Busan, được chia thành 11 hạng mục bao gồm: “A Window on Asian Cinema” (Cửa sổ điện ảnh châu Á), “New Currents” (Những tác phẩm đương đại), “Korean Cinema Today-Panorama”  (Toàn cảnh Điện ảnh Hàn Quốc Ngày nay), “World Cinema” (Thế giới điện ảnh), “Wide Angle” (Góc quay rộng), “Open Cinema” (Điện ảnh mở rộng), “Critic’s Choice” (Lựa chọn của các nhà phê bình), “Special Programs in Focus” (Chương trình tâm điểm), Gala Presentation.. Phim "DAUGHTER" của Đạo diễn Ku Hye Sun thuộc hạng mục “Korean Cinema Today-Panorama” (Toàn cảnh Điện ảnh Hàn Quốc Ngày nay).

"Daughter" là phim điện ảnh thứ 3 của Goo Hye Sun sau "Magic" (2010) và "The Peach Tree" (2012). Phim là câu chuyện kể về một học sinh trung học tên là San Yi (vai diễn do Ku Hye Sun đảm nhận) - luôn trải qua những xung đột, mâu thuẫn với người mẹ của mình. Người mẹ (vai diễn do diễn viên Shim Hae Jin đảm nhận) luôn dùng nhiều hình thức trừng phạt khắt khe răn đe con gái mình. Bộ phim đề cập đến khía cạnh tâm lý,  nói lên một thông điệp xã hội.

Người hâm mộ Goo Hye Sun đang háo hức chờ đợi "Daughter" ra mắt bởi đây là lần đầu tiên cô ấy đảm nhận vai chính trong một bộ phim điện ảnh. Là một bộ phim đặc sắc cùng với kỹ thuật quay phim đẹp mắt hứa hẹn sẽ làm hài lòng sự mong đợi của khán giả.

Ku Hye Sun chia sẻ :" Người mẹ trong phim coi con gái mình như là bạn chí cốt (2 người như 1). [News] Diễn viên Shim Hye Jin và Đạo diễn Ku Hye Sun hóa thân thành Người mẹ và Con gái trên tạp chí InStyle

Vào ngày 19.9, YG Ent. thông báo rằng Goo Hye Sun sẽ trở lại với vai trò là Đạo diễn bộ phim điện ảnh có tên gọi "Daughter". Phim được sản xuất bởi YES Production và Goo Hye Sun Films.

Phim điện ảnh "Daughter" là bộ phim điện ảnh thứ 3 của Đạo diễn Goo Hye Sun và đây là lần đầu tiên cô ấy ra mắt như là một ngôi sao điện ảnh - đảm nhận vai nữ chính trong một bộ phim điện ảnh. Nữ diễn viên Shim Hye Jin nhận lời mời tham gia bộ phim thể hiện sự ủng hộ của mình đối với hậu bối (đàn em). "Daughter" là một bộ phim tâm lý mang thông điệp xã hội nói về sự xung đột, mâu thuẫn giữa cô con gái tên là SanYi (một học sinh trung học) và người mẹ của mình - người  luôn áp dụng những hình phạt khắt khe ren đe con gái.

Bức ảnh trên tạp chí phần nào đó cũng cho thấy sự căng thẳng trên khuôn mặt của Ku Hye Sun và  Shim Hye Jin. Hình ảnh Goo Hye Sun ngồi trên chiếc bàn bên cạnh là những cuộn phim thể hiện sự duyên dáng và quyến rũ còn Diễn viên Shim Hye Jin có chút gì đó thể hiện sự uy quyền của chính mình.

Goo Hye Sun tiết lộ lý do mời diễn viên Shim Hye Jin vào vai người mẹ trong phim điện ảnh "Daughter": "Nếu bạn xem bộ phim này gần như bạn sẽ nghĩ rằng Shim Hye Jin và người mẹ - hai người như là một, diễn xuất của cô ấy luôn tràn đầy năng lượng kỳ diệu. Cô ấy là một diễn viên có thể thể hiện được tất cả các thể loại".

Goo Hye Sun chia sẻ thêm :"Tôi không định cho bố mẹ tôi xem bộ phim này. Có lẽ họ sẽ buồn khi nhìn thấy "người mẹ" trong phim có những quan điểm rất tiêu cực và bi quan".

Diễn viên Shim Hye Jin chia sẻ lý do nhận lời mời tham gia diễn xuất trong bộ phim : "Tôi muốn ủng hộ hậu bối (đàn em) của mình - người làm phim với kinh phí thấp. Khi bạn cảm thấy có đủ sự kết nối đến bộ phim bạn có thể nhìn thấy niềm đam mê và tiềm năng của vị Đạo diễn mà không hề nghĩ đến sự đảm bảo hay có sự đối đãi như thế nào. Đạo diễn Goo Hye Sun là một người bạn rất thông minh và tràn đầy niềm đam mê, nhiệt huyết". Cô chia sẻ thêm: "Tôi có sự đồng cảm khi đọc kịch bản. Người mẹ trong phim chỉ đơn giản muốn con gái mình sống một cuộc sống như bà từng trải qua. Hình phạt bà ấy áp dụng có lẽ khá nặng nhưng tôi chắc rằng cả hai chúng tôi có sự liên quan với nhau".

Phim điện ảnh "Daughter" được mời tham dự Liên hoan phim Quốc tế Busan lần thứ 19 và được trình chiếu trong hạng mục "Phim Điện ảnh Hàn Quốc ngày nay".

Một người mẹ cực kỳ nghiêm khắc khiến con gái của mình luôn bị ám ảnh. Người con gái ấy tên là San Yi - một học sinh trung học. Mẹ SanYi buộc cô bé phải sống một cuộc sống khổ hạnh và theo dõi sát sao từng nhất cử nhất động để cô ấy không bị đi lạc lối. Nhiều năm sau khi đã trưởng thành, SanYi biết được rằng người mẹ của mình đang mắc bệnh ung thư và thăm bà ở bệnh viện. Tuy nhiên, người mẹ cũng chẳng có sự thay đổi nào dù cho bà ấy đang dần dần đến gần với cái chết. San Yi ghé thăm người giáo viên cũ dạy piano -người luôn khích lệ, động viên cô bé lúc còn nhỏ. Bà ấy cũng không có mối quan hệ tốt với người bố của mình nên người giáo viên có sự đồng cảm và thấu hiểu hoàn cảnh của học sinh của mình, bà luôn bên cạnh động viên SanYi. Người giáo viên chỉ sống một mình trong căn nhà cũ nát qua nhiều năm. Khi cô giáo nói với SanYi rằng cô ấy đã chăm sóc người bố mắc bệnh Alzheimer cho đến khi ông qua đời, SanYi bắt đầu thắc mắc và tự hỏi liệu khi cô mang bầu, cô sẽ có thể thoát khỏi được những ký ức đau buồn liên quan đến người mẹ của mình hay không? A mother is seriously obsessed with her daughter. The mother forces her daughter to live a ascetic life and keeps a close watch to ensure she doesn’t stray. Years later, now fully grown up, the daughter learns that her mother is stricken with cancer and visits the hospital. The mother, however, has not changed at all, even while awaiting her imminent death. The daughter visits her former piano teacher, who consoled her when she was young. Since she was not on good terms with her own father, the teacher understands the daughter’s position and tries to support her former student. This teacher now lives alone at her old house after all these years. When the teacher tells the daughter that she took care of her father with Alzheimer’s until he died, the daughter begins to wonder if she, now pregnant, will ever be able to be free from the painful memories involving her mother. Director Ku Hyesun stars as the daughter character, and actress Shim Hye-jin plays the mother, weaving a delicate patchwork of emotional interactions between the mother and daughter

[REVIEW] Busan Film Review: ‘Daughter’

Ku Hye-sun's third feature is a potent brew of maternal madness.

The title may be “Daughter,” but it’s a tiger mom for the ages who holds the spotlight in this seething domestic horror film about a young girl’s deeply unhappy childhood. Centered around a memorably scary turn from Shim Hye-jin that may remind viewers of “Carrie,” “Black Swan” and other scream-worthy portraits of deranged motherhood, South Korean writer-director-actress Ku Hye-sun’s third feature can feel a tad mechanical and one-note in its abrupt temporal shifts, revealing how the past emotional and psychological wounds continue to throb in the present. But that one note is undeniably gripping, lending this sustained banshee howl of movie an almost demonic intensity for much of its taut 82-minute running time. Following its Busan world premiere, additional festival dates beckon.

San (Ku) has just found out she’s pregnant, a discovery that fills her with less joy than unease as she heads to the hospital to visit her terminally ill mother (Shim), whom she hasn’t seen in quite some time. Lengthy flashbacks to San’s early adolescence (in which she’s played by Hyun Seung-min) soon make clear why, as we become intimately acquainted with the never-ending nightmare of living under her mother’s thumb. On a good day, San gets home promptly from school, where her mother proceeds to scrub her (hard), criticizes her poor manners at the dinner table, and threatens her if she doesn’t get perfect marks on her homework. On a bad day, these regular rituals are accompanied by shrill, relentless verbal invective — “Shut up, you fucking bitch!” seems to be Mom’s favorite insult — and, inevitably, physical violence.

In painting the mother character in broad, immediately familiar brushstrokes, Ku appears to have made a close study of Piper Laurie’s legendary performance in “Carrie.” There are comparable if less vivid traces of religious fanaticism in the way this Mommie Dearest mutters the Lord’s Prayer at home (and later clutches a rosary on her deathbed), and her primary fear seems to be that her daughter will one day begin to explore and take full possession of her sexuality. Still, she represents an improvement on Margaret White in at least one respect: When San has her first period, her mother cheerfully welcomes her to the world of womanhood, hands her a sanitary napkin and walks away, in perhaps the only scene here played even remotely for laughs.

San’s life, while unenviably grim, is not without its glimmers of hope. She’s shy but well liked at school, and she soon catches the eye of a male student (Yang Hyun-mo), although it’s clear their flirtation will be short-lived if San’s mother has anything to say about it. Providing the most meaningful outside influence is a kindly next-door neighbor (Yoon Da-kyung) who immediately recognizes what’s going on, and who reaches out by offering San piano lessons. Instinctively aware of how to draw certain protective boundaries around the girl, without ever becoming confrontational or dropping her neighborly civility, the piano teacher becomes both a positive role model and a sort of fairy-godmother figure, in counterpoint to Mom’s towering Gorgon.

Ku’s neatly structured screenplay keeps the story moving on two parallel fronts while finding logical transition points between time frames; a painful word uttered in the present can send San’s mind racing back into the past. Yet for all its awareness of the persistent aftereffects of child abuse, “Daughter” is far from hopeless about its protagonist’s future: Whatever traumas San has sustained, she’s grown into a strong, tough-minded young woman, fully capable of making her own life choices and standing up to the mother who once terrified her. Yet as Ku’s deeply sympathetic performance makes clear, San’s feelings toward her mother remain an unresolved morass of love and hatred — and this, the film suggests, is to some extent a legacy that all mothers and daughters share. (And some fathers and daughters, too, as suggested by one scene that smacks of narrative overreach.)

At any point, our view of the mother is limited almost entirely to San’s perspective, a tactic that gets maximum tension out of Shim’s increasingly unhinged performance, even as it cries out for a deeper, more conflicted understanding of this cruel, broken woman and the experiences that brought her to this point. Absent this layer, her behavior is shocking but never particularly surprising; it becomes a foregone conclusion that she will react with over-the-top fury to every perceived slight or mistake on San’s behalf. Still, the spectacle of mother and daughter squaring off in close quarters is an impossible one to turn away from, with credit due not only to Shim’s ferocious intensity but also to Hyun’s tremulous turn as a frightened, long-suffering young girl gradually tapping into her capacity for defiance. (The lack of physical resemblance between Ku and Hyun is a minor flaw, but both actresses are aces.)

Tech credits are serviceably low-budget. The digital lensing is effective if rarely more than televisual in approach, getting the job done with minimal fuss; context-appropriate snatches of Bach, Chopin and Ravel accompany Choi In-young’s supportive score.

스탠리 큐브릭의 영화 ‘샤이닝’(The Shiningㆍ1980)을 본 사람이라면 이 영화가 주는 압도적인 몇 장면을 잊을 수 없을 것이다. 이 영화는 유령에 홀린 소설가 잭(잭 니콜슨 분)이 가족을 살해하려는 이야기다. 복도를 따라 움직이는 스테디 캠의 이미지가 백미인 공포 스릴러로, 영화 전체 분위기를 지배하는 일부 장면들은 영화사(史)에도 자주 등장하는 명장면으로 꼽힌다. If you have ever seen Stanley Kubrick's movie, "Shining" (1980), you cannot forget few amazing/overwhelming screen shots. That movie is about an evil-possessed novelist Jack (played by Jack Nicholson) who tries to murder his own family. The image of the hallways shot through a steady-cam gives the finest example of a horror thriller; some of the shots in the movie that show the major feelings of the movie are still cited to this day as master classic shots.

하지만, 필자가 특히 이 장면을 잊지 못하는 것은 영화 속 복도가 주는 기괴한 인상 때문이다. The weird impression that the movie's hallways give is something that I especially cannot forget.샤이닝에는 ‘복도가 주인공’이라 할 만큼 복도가 자주 등장한다. In "Shining", the hallway appears often as if it is the star of the movie. 폭설로 고립된 호텔의 빈 복도에서 잭의 아들 대니는 유령들이 아버지를 미치게 하고 있음을 알아 차린다. Jack's son, Danny, realizes that his father is possessed by the ghosts and has become crazy inside the hotel isolated/stranded by the heavy snow.그때 대니의 공포에 질린 표정은 잊을 수가 없다. One cannot easily forget the horror-stricken look on Danny at that moment.아이의 머릿속에는 ‘아버지가 이제 나와 가족을 살해할지도 모른다’는 공포가 자라기 시작한다. A child begins to accept the reality of horror that his own father can kill his own family.그때까지 필자는 한번도 ‘아버지가 우리 가족을 죽일 수도 있겠구나…’라는 생각은 해본 적이 없었기 때문에, 그건 충격의 능선을 넘어 닿아본 적 없는 공포가 되었다. Until that very moment I personally have never thought that it is possible for a father to think about killing his own family and such a thought was a horror beyond the realm of shocking reality.아버지라는 존재는 위험 앞에서 언제나 우리를 돌보고 보호해주는 그런 존재가 아니었던가? Isn't a father suppose to be our protector?샤이닝이라는 영화가 인간내면에 깊숙히 침투할 수 있었던 결정적 탄두가 무엇이지 묻는다면 나는 답할 수 있다. 한 순간 가족을 살해할 수도 있는 아버지라는 존재의 ‘잠재된 위험성’이라고. If you are to ask me what is the critical "weapon" of the movie "Shining" for having such a piercing impact on the human mind, I can answer that. It is a father's "potential/sleeping danger" that can murder his entire family. (p/s: Woah!!! I have never seen "Shining" due to its horror nature...but that is a great insight. We all have heard of many tragic stories of parents committing murder of his/her family and suiciding...there are even few recent ones here in US too.)

부산영화제에 초청된 작품 중에 ‘다우더’는 샤이닝에서 보았던 ‘원초적 공포감’을 떠올리게 하는 무엇이 있다.Among the movies invited to BIFF, "Dauder" contains something that brings out "primal horror" that I experienced watching "Shining". 샤이닝이 유령에 홀린 잭과 아들 대니에게 이야기의 초점을 맞췄다면, ‘다우더’는 삐뚤어진 모성애로 얼룩진 엄마와 그것에게 벗어나려는 사춘기 소녀 산(구혜선 분)의 이야기로 집중된다. If the focus of "Shining" is the relationship between Jack and his son Danny, "Dauder's" focus of the story is between the mother who is discolored by a skewed sense of mother's love and her adolescent daughter, San (GHS).산에게 엄마는 늘 낯선 사람이었으며 잠재된 공포의 존재다. To San, her mother always felt like a stranger with a potential for terror.엄마는 산에게 집착하며 그녀를 놓아주지 않으려 한다. Mother is obsessively focused on San and does not leave her alone. 살기 위해선 부모를 벗어나야 한다는 프레임 측면에선 샤이닝과 다우더는 갈등의 양상이 비슷해 보인다. The similarity between "Shining" and "Dauder" is the need to escape from the parents to survive.하지만 다우더는 샤이닝 처럼 영화 전반에 걸쳐 쌓여지는 ‘친연성에 대한 공포감’을 넘어서려고 한다.However, unlike "Shining", "Dauder" tries to go beyond the "terror of blood ties" that piles up throughout the two movies. 샤이닝이 가족이라는 존재에 다가갈수록 공포가 되어가는 감정의 질서라면, 다우더는 친족에 가까이 갈수록 외로움이 되어가는 감정에 가깝다. "Shining" elevates the terror one feels as one gets closer to the family, but "Dauder" makes one feel increasing loneliness as one gets closer to the family.그리고 그러한 감정은 우리 모두가 한번쯤 가져보았던, 여전히 가지고 있는 가족에 대한 외로움을 건드린다. And, we have all experienced that feeling at least once in our lives and maybe we still do; the movie touches on that feeling of loneliness about family.

냉정히 말해 이 영화는 공포보다는 외로움에 관한 영화다 To put it objectively, this movie is more about loneliness than horror.본질적으로 샤이닝과 확연히 다른 질감을 가져가는 부분이기도 하다.That brings out the essentially different texture between the two movies. 농밀하게 요약하면 영화 다우더는 외로움이 공포가 되어버릴 것이 두려워 엄마를 떠났던 한 소녀가 오히려 더 외로워져 다시 엄마를 찾는 이야기다.To densely summarize"Dauder", it is about a girl who leaves her mother for the fear that the feeling of loneliness will change to a terror and, yet, she returns to the mother due to even more feelings of loneliness.엄마를 떠난 딸이 예상치 못했던 임신을 한 후 엄마를 찾아오게 되는 설정이기 때문이다.The daughter returns to the mother once she finds out about her unplanned pregnancy.그런 연유로 어머니와 딸 사이의 미묘한 감정을 담은 다우더는 결국 모성에 관한 이야기로 압축된다고 할 수 있다. So,it appears that, ultimately, "Dauder" is about motherhood that encompasses delicate feelings in the relationship of a mother and a daughter.딸의 회귀를 보노라면 두 가지 질문이 생겨난다. 하나는 ‘엄마가 되어보면 엄마를 이해할 수 있을까?’이고, 다른 하나는 ‘보호자는 과연 어떤 존재인가?’ 라는 질문이다.Two questions come to mind when we examine the daughter's life: One is "would she be able to understand her mother if she becomes a mother?" and the other one is "what really is the meaning of being a protector/guardian?".그건 감독이 관객에게 묻는 것이기도 하다. Those questions are what the director is also asking of the audience. 이 영화는 어쩌면 우리가 살고 있는 이 상실의 세계를 몸 속에 지닌 여성이 가진 외로움의 다른 화법일지 모른다고. This movie also just might be a discourse on the issue of all the women of this world who carries inside them the loneliness about losses of their lives/world.

영화는 분명 어둡지만 사랑을 이야기하고 있으며, 가장 가까운 사람을 들여다보며 자신을 찾아가는 과정이 있다. The movie is definitely dark, but it talks of love as we look closely at the one we love the most and also find out who we are.좋은 이야기의 구성에는 그러한 ‘자아 찾기’라는 여정이 있기 마련이다. A good story always has a component of "self-discovery" journey. 스스로를 떠나 스스로를 찾아가는 드라마에는 성장통이 내재율처럼 녹아 들어 있다. One's departure from self that leads to discovery of self is like a poetic rhythm/verse that is melted into a drama about development and growth.다우더에는 이러한 미덕이 잔류한다. Such virtues linger on in the movie "Dauder".성장통에는 상실을 넘어서려는 인간의 고통과 연민이 공존한다. 공존은 외로운 것이다. To grow, it is inevitable that we must also experience pain as well as compassion. It is a lonely road.하지만 공존은 우리가 살기 위해 치러야 할 외로움이며 그리움이기도 하다. This mixed bag of emotions is a sense of loneliness that we must live with and also realize that there is a yearning behind it.영화 다우더엔 담담하지만 이러한 성장통의 맥박을 담으려는 감독의 섬세한 시야가 있다."Dauder's" director weaves in her detailed views of growing pains' vibrations in a cool and serene manner.큰 모성은 단순한 여성성을 넘어선다. 도시로 이 화면 속의 양수가 흘러 넘쳤으면 좋겠다. Big motherhood goes beyond simple femininity. I really hope that this "amniotic fluid" inside the screen overflows into the city.
