It's near midnight but I haven't wanted to sleep yet. Partly, I just don't feel sleepy, but more than that I'm afraid my eyes will be puffy the next morning since I shed quite a lot of tears while reading a story, or you can say a 'fanfiction'.
Seriously, it's not rare for me to cry when reading stories or watching films (I'm the type to shed tears so easily, fyi). However, it's been a while that I could find something deserved for my tears (well, I know I sound a bit arrogant here :D )
This fanfic I've just read is a one-shot called 'HALF FULL'. Although the story is a one-shot, it's so long that I had to spend 2 hours to read it (I think it's about 10,000 words long). And it's more than a fanfic. If it weren't written by a fan and the characters' names weren't some idols' names, I couldn't think it was considered as a fanfic. It's the first time I've read such a moral story for a fanfic, really. So I'd like to call it a story rather than a fanfic.
Have you ever tried to explain the meaning of the two opposite words 'Optimistic' and 'Pessimistic'?
I've learned a way to explain them through the story. It's like seeing the cup as half full or half empty.
The story begins with a guy, a younger one of a twin, receiving a call from his mother informing that his twin brother was gone forever. You must not feel unfamiliar with the kind of story in which the twins have the same appearance but opposite in personality, right? This story is sort of like that, the older brother is outgoing, perfect in every way while the younger brother is shy, reserved and not as good as his hyung. So, you know, they separated when they're 14, the younger one left Korea for US and didn't come back for 10 years until he heard about his brother's death.
Do you know the feeling when you attend to a funeral of your twin and everyone stares at you while reminding of your brother?
The whole story describes the feeling of the younger brother when listening to people around talking about his hyung and what happened for 10 years when he's not there. The feeling of both hate and love, the feeling of both regret and gratefulness. And beyond that, it shows me the beautiful brotherhood and friendship.
The part that I loved most is the letter that the older brother wrote to his dongsaeng for their upcoming 25th birthday. I almost sobbed when reading it. It's so meaningful.
I don't know to say more, since I was already overwhelmed.
Just check it out if you guys feel interested in.
Extremely highly recommended.
